Prayer Can Be The Change
This picture is becoming quite popular on social media. It’s in regards to all of the school shootings that have happened in American schools.
I understand the deep desires behind this, for our leaders to stand up and put new policies in place that would bring change to our schools and our justice system. But being the christian that I am, this picture really rubs me the wrong way and deeply saddens my heart. Yes, we most certainly need change. I think everyone can agree on that. Something absolutely needs to be done to help better protect our children, teachers, administrators, and everyone else who pours into our children’s lives.
But perhaps the first step should be to stop ignoring how powerful prayer can be! Maybe prayer is the exact thing that’s missing. Prayer can be the change!
Don’t cross out prayer! Don’t think that it’s ineffective!
Because the Bible says, “Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. Elijah, for instance, human just like us, prayed hard that it wouldn’t rain, and it didn’t—not a drop for three and a half years. Then he prayed that it would rain, and it did. The showers came and everything started growing again.” James 5:16-18
I’ll never understand why such tragic events happen, but I do believe that God has a greater plan even in the midst of such terrible things such as children dying.
Do you know what happens every single time I hear of a death, whether I know that person or not? I pray! For the loved ones left behind that their joy will be restored and that God will get them through their grief. That the person was saved, although I believe that was already determined at their time of death. In a way, I guess it’s my way of grieving with the Lord if they didn’t enter His kingdom.
I don’t believe that my prayers fall on deaf ears, and that the Holy Spirit goes on my behalf and brings comfort to those I’ve prayed for.
I stand with millions of other Christians who believe that prayer needs to be allowed back in our schools! It’s a complete disgrace to me that a Christian child isn’t allowed to bring their Bible to school or pray in many U.S. schools. I graduated many years ago and at that time, they had just banned prayer from our graduation ceremony. How sad that we were not allowed to say a prayer for our future. But I’ll never forget the moment that one of our classmates walked up to the podium and led everyone in prayer anyway.
We need more Christians like her who are willing to take a stand and say enough is enough!
I’m not trying to force my religious views down anyone else’s throats, but I do say that Christian children should have the right to pray in their schools if they choose to. I’m sure no one stopped them from praying while they were hiding from a gunman. Why is it ok then, but not on a normal school day?
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
I can just imagine if more of us would do what the Bible is telling us to do here. Minds and hearts could be healed from all of the brokenness that they’ve dealt with. Addicts could be freed from their addictions. Abuse and neglect would become less common and grieving hearts could find the healing that they are so desperately longing for.
Humble yourself! Pray and seek God’s face!
He hears your prayers! Together our prayers can help heal this nation!
Prayers provide protection. It says so in Proverbs 18:10 and in Psalm 91.
If you don’t know where to start, then join me by saying this prayer.
Together, our prayers can and will make a difference in this world!
Thank you for another day. Thank you that you hear my prayers. Today I lift up everyone dealing with a grieving heart. Please restore their joy quickly. I pray that they will turn to You in this difficult time. I pray that justice will be served and that you will lead our nation to healing and restoration as more and more of Your people humble themselves and come to you in prayer.
Put Your hedge of protection around the children and other innocent people in this world. I pray for our leaders God, that You will direct their paths. Guide them to make the best decisions. Give them divine ideas that will provide better protection in our schools, theaters, malls, and other public places.
I pray for the hearts and minds of those who are plotting evil acts. Please help them to hear Your voice over the voices of the enemy. I pray that you will place people in their path who will help change the course of their life. I pray for unity where there is disunity. Help us all come together and make this world a better place. I ask all these things in Jesus name. Amen
Be blessed my friends!
